They report on this regularly and adjust their goals as they meet them.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"key_considerations\" class=\"wp-block-ace-standard-key-considerations standard-key-considerations standard-content\"><h3>Key considerations<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Defining your terms<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s important that you decide what <span title=\"Metrics\" data-definition-name=\"Metrics\" data-definition=\"metrics\" data-definition-id=\"4420\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>or measurements are useful for you to use. Before doing this, you might also need to define what you mean when you talk about the things you\u2019re measuring. For example, if you are going to count how many projects are disabled-led or disability-focused, you will need to say what these terms mean to your organisation. In the same way, if you plan to count how many <span data-definition=\"lead-artists\" data-definition-id=\"5704\" title=\"Lead artists\" data-definition-name=\"Lead artists\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> or <span data-definition=\"lead-creatives\" data-definition-id=\"5703\" title=\"Lead creatives\" data-definition-name=\"Lead creatives\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>you have commissioned who are disabled, it\u2019s important to be clear about what being a \u2018lead artist\u2019 means in your organisation. Include disabled people in defining these terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are counting what types of access provision available in your projects or venue, you might also want to develop your own definition of what you mean by \u2018<span data-definition=\"creative-access\" data-definition-id=\"4340\" title=\"Creative access\" data-definition-name=\"Creative access\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>\u2019, \u2018<span data-definition=\"integrated-access\" data-definition-id=\"4398\" title=\"Integrated access\" data-definition-name=\"Integrated access\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>\u2019 and \u2018<span data-definition=\"adapted-performance-or-presentation\" data-definition-id=\"4302\" title=\"Adapted performance or presentation\" data-definition-name=\"Adapted performance or presentation\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>\u2019. Ensure that you align this with the targets you have set for your organisation. For example, you might count:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how many disabled performers have appeared in work that wasn\u2019t disability-focused, or where disability was incidental to their role<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how many contributions have been made by artists, performers or freelancers who identify as disabled and have other <span data-definition=\"intersecting-identities\" data-definition-id=\"3613\" title=\"Intersecting identities\" data-definition-name=\"Intersecting identities\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your measurements here should be based on how people have identified themselves to you. For example, in equality and inclusion monitoring forms or surveys. Never make assumptions about how someone identifies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Representation across your programme<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s advisable to monitor where and when disabled performers, contributors, and disabled-led work appear in your programme. You should also record where accessible provisions are provided. Aim for broad representation throughout your entire programme. For example, ensure that disabled people are represented, commissioned, or scheduled year-round and not only during disability-focused seasons, festivals, or events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensure that you offer a wide range of accessible provisions across your programme, allowing people to choose when and what they want to experience. Don\u2019t limit your adapted performances or presentations to certain days or times. Make sure that the information you gather feeds back into your <span data-definition=\"commissioning\" data-definition-id=\"4332\" title=\"Commissioning\" data-definition-name=\"Commissioning\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>, <span data-definition=\"programming\" data-definition-id=\"4442\" title=\"Programming\" data-definition-name=\"Programming\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>, and casting processes so you can address any gaps you identify. Usually refers to a project where access is part of the artistic vision or purpose so that the access and the art cannot be separated.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Disabled-led organisations<\/h4><div><p>An organisation where disabled people are represented at decision-making level (for example, as Artistic Director, Chief Executive or Trustee). When at least 51% of the senior management team and board identify as disabled. Usually guided by lived experience of disabled people and centre disabled perspectives.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Freelancers<\/h4><div><p>This means a person who works for themselves and gets paid to do short-term jobs for different organisations. For example, someone who does a job like stage manager, video editor or sign language interpreter might be a freelancer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Integrated access<\/h4><div><p>A pre-planned and proactive approach to making experiences accessible that considers an accessible audience experience from the start of the project. Results in access provision that is thoughtfully embedded into the experience for a seamless offer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Intersecting identities<\/h4><div><p><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW100197856 BCX0\">This means when someone has multiple marginalised identities or protected characteristics under the Equality Act (e.g. race, gender, age, sexual orientation) that overlap, influence <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW100197856 BCX0\">each other<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW100197856 BCX0\"> and shape the person\u2019s lived experience in unique ways<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Lead artists<\/h4><div><p>The lead artist or creative is the person who is in charge of the creative side of project, comes up with the big ideas and makes creative decisions. They help decide what the project looks, sounds or feels like, who is involved, and how the work is shared with others.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Lead creatives<\/h4><div><p>The lead artist or creative is the person who is in charge of the creative side of project, comes up with the big ideas and makes creative decisions. They help decide what the project looks, sounds or feels like, who is involved, and how the work is shared with others.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Metrics<\/h4><div><p>These are the numbers and facts you collect to help you understand or evaluate your project. They can help you measure things like what you did, who took part and what changed because of your project.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Programming<\/h4><div><p>When an organisation like a theatre, a gallery or a festival chooses which shows, events or performances will happen in their space or at their event, and when they will happen.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Promoters<\/h4><div><p>A group or company who organise events and promotes their clients through marketing.
