Act on their feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Embrace opportunities to share learning with your colleagues, for example, across the All In network. Actively find ways to support disabled people in your community. If you are using disability-focused metrics, involve disabled people in deciding what to measure and in evaluating the project later<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, you might consider metrics such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how many participants identify as disabled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how disability was represented across different roles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how far people felt their access needs were met or exceeded<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what access provisions were offered, which were used, and how many people used them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how quickly people\u2019s needs were met, adjustments were made, or access issues were addressed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what access barriers or challenges were faced during the project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how far people felt their voices were heard and respected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how the project made people feel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether other metrics like learning outcomes were met on an equitable basis for disabled people<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what could have been more accessible, or needs to be changed for next time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more information about disability-related data, refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/allin.online\/standard\/creative-and-cultural-experiences\/evaluation-and-continuous-improvement\/measuring-representation-and-access\/\">Creative and Cultural Experiences&nbsp;5.03 Measuring Representation and Access<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more about ways of measuring feedback, refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/allin.online\/standard\/creative-and-cultural-experiences\/evaluation-and-continuous-improvement\/inclusive-feedback-mechanisms\/\">Creative and Cultural Experiences&nbsp;5.02 Inclusive Feedback Mechanisms<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Reflection points<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure to dedicate time during project delivery to listen and respond to the experiences of disabled artists, performers, and <span data-definition=\"freelancers\" data-definition-id=\"5668\" title=\"Freelancers\" data-definition-name=\"Freelancers\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>working with you. For example, you might do this by regularly checking in about access during one-to-one meetings, in the rehearsal room, at production meetings, before and after key moments such as an exhibition installation, or during project updates and debriefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask everyone about how accessible they find the process, not just those who identify as disabled. Remember to include freelancers and access providers such as <span data-definition=\"sign-language-interpreter\" data-definition-id=\"4857\" title=\"Sign language interpreters\" data-definition-name=\"Sign language interpreters\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> and <span data-definition=\"audio-describer\" data-definition-id=\"4859\" title=\"Audio describers\" data-definition-name=\"Audio describers\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Offer multiple ways for people to share their opinions; not everyone will feel comfortable discussing access in larger groups or formal meetings. You could provide a contact person or email address for those who prefer to reflect and process their experience privately. A comment box for anonymous feedback might also be useful. Create opportunities for informal conversations, as feelings about access can be complex, and a relaxed approach could be more welcoming. Clearly state that you value all opinions on accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Disabled people often face challenges in gaining opportunities in creative and cultural spaces and may fear that expressing concerns could jeopardise future work. Assure them this is not the case. Share examples where feedback has led to changes in your practice, helping disabled creatives feel safe to be honest. Explain how you share and act on what you learn to improve your organisation, often referred to as an <span title=\"Accountability structure\" data-definition-name=\"Accountability structure\" data-definition=\"accountability-structure\" data-definition-id=\"4299\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>. For more information, refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/allin.online\/standard\/customer-service\/continuous-improvement\/accountability-structures\/\">Customer Service 4.03 Accountability Structures<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Respect people\u2019s expertise<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make it clear that the lived experience of disabled people working with you is not a learning resource. You should ensure you offer people the chance to tell you how accessible they find things, but don\u2019t pressure anyone to contribute if they don\u2019t wish to. Don\u2019t expect someone who raises a problem to have a solution or suggest a better approach. Disabled people should be able to focus on their main tasks without having to become an access consultant on the side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s up to your organisation to consider how to address the issues they\u2019ve highlighted in the future. If you want to work with a disabled person to learn from their lived experience, always contract them separately for this purpose (for example, as an access consultant, a script consultant or an advisor). Don\u2019t expect them to fulfil this role alongside their primary job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When working with a disabled creative or performer on another project, negotiate their consultancy work separately. Confirm that this role doesn\u2019t conflict with their schedule as a creative or performer. It\u2019s especially important that consultancy doesn\u2019t encroach on time intended for breaks, rest, and recovery. For example, you might hold an access-focused debrief at the end of a project. Within your organisation, this is important so that people understand why there may be changes to how you work in the future. It also allows colleagues in different areas to consider how a particular access barrier someone has faced might impact their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sharing learning with colleagues across the sector helps ensure that everyone can benefit from the good practices developed by others. While large-scale opportunities at conferences and events are valuable, also consider local networks. For instance, you might establish an access group in your area to bring together people from various venues to exchange knowledge and advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Building community<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consider ways to help amplify the voices of disabled people you\u2019ve worked with and start building a community around accessible practice. For instance, you could pay disabled artists you\u2019ve collaborated with before to mentor newer artists. The plan includes knowing which people are responsible for making sure that the changes are really made.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Audio describers<\/h4><div><p>A narrator that describes visual elements of a live experience or video. Audio description describes important visual details such as costume, set, location, facial expressions, body language and actions.<\/p>\n<p>It can be delivered live through speakers or a headset to people at an event or show, or as a live or pre-recorded audio described tour (for example at a museum). It can also be integrated into the script of a play or a voiceover, or delivered by a character. In a digital context, such as cinema or video, it can be delivered as a separate audio track or integrated into a script or voiceover.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Evaluation<\/h4><div><p>When you look at how well a project went. You might do this to understand what people thought about it and how you could do things better in future. Evaluation helps you understand if you met your goals and what you learned.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Freelancers<\/h4><div><p>This means a person who works for themselves and gets paid to do short-term jobs for different organisations. For example, someone who does a job like stage manager, video editor or sign language interpreter might be a freelancer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Metrics<\/h4><div><p>These are the numbers and facts you collect to help you understand or evaluate your project. They can help you measure things like what you did, who took part and what changed because of your project.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ace-definition-item\"><h4>Sign language interpreters<\/h4><div><p>Sign language interpretation is translation of the spoken and sound elements of an experience to British or Irish Sign Language. It can be delivered by a sign language interpreter located apart from the main action (for example at the side of the stage, on a separate screen, on video accessed by QR code signage) or by signing
