This is particularly important when hosting <span data-definition=\"adapted-performances-and-presentations\" data-definition-id=\"5118\" title=\"Adapted performances and presentations\" data-definition-name=\"Adapted performances and presentations\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>. This Standard outlines the key considerations that customer service staff need to be aware of when welcoming audiences to adapted performances and presentations. Make sure they are aware of any areas in your venue where these receivers do not work and can assist anyone who needs to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Communicate clearly with your audience so they know where to pick up audio description receivers before their event by including this information in pre-event communications and displaying clear signage at your venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have a clear process for hosting a <span title=\"Touch tour\" data-definition-name=\"Touch tour\" data-definition=\"touch-tour\" data-definition-id=\"6405\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>, often held just before an audio described theatre performance, or a live audio described tour of an exhibition or installation. They should offer water bowls and dog mats on request. Have a plan for assistance dogs not accompanying their owners. This space should be calm and spacious enough for dogs to lie down. Check that staff assigned to this role do not have dog allergies or phobias. Consider offering <span data-definition=\"sighted-guide\" data-definition-id=\"5975\" title=\"Sighted guide\" data-definition-name=\"Sighted guide\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember that blind or low vision visitors and assistance dog owners could attend any event, not just adapted performances or presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Sign language interpreted performances and presentations<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure your staff understand the basics of what a <span data-definition=\"sign-language-interpreted\" data-definition-id=\"5424\" title=\"Sign language interpreted\" data-definition-name=\"Sign language interpreted\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> event is, and how they are usually delivered at your venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensure that customer service staff know where the <span title=\"Sign language interpreter\" data-definition-name=\"Sign language interpreter\" data-definition=\"sign-language-interpreter-2\" data-definition-id=\"5114\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> will be located during the event. This is vital, as <span title=\"British Sign Language\" data-definition-name=\"British Sign Language\" data-definition=\"british-sign-language\" data-definition-id=\"4317\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> (BSL) or <span title=\"Irish Sign Language\" data-definition-name=\"Irish Sign Language\" data-definition=\"irish-sign-language\" data-definition-id=\"4318\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> (ISL) users need a direct view of the interpreter. If they have booked a seat without a direct view, they may need to be moved. Clearly mark seats with a view of the interpreter on your seating plan. For more details, refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/allin.online\/standard\/digital-communications\/ticket-booking\/seat-selection-and-seating-plans\/\">Digital Communications 4.01 Seat Selection and Seating Plans<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whenever possible, inform customer service staff of the interpreter&#8217;s name for each show or event. Some audience members may choose a show based on their enjoyment of the interpreter\u2019s work. Include this information on the event page and in pre-event access details as soon as it\u2019s available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Display clear signs with diagrams showing where the interpreter will be standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensure that staff have received deaf awareness training and know how to approach and communicate effectively with a deaf person. Consider offering basic BSL or ISL training so staff can welcome visitors in their preferred language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Captioned performances and presentations<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure your staff understand the basics of what a <span data-definition=\"captioned\" data-definition-id=\"5888\" title=\"Captioned\" data-definition-name=\"Captioned\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>event is, and how they are usually delivered at your venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensure that customer service staff know where the <span data-definition=\"caption-units\" data-definition-id=\"5422\" title=\"Caption units\" data-definition-name=\"Caption units\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> will be located for the event. This is important because caption users will want to position themselves with a good view of the captions. People may need to move if they have booked a seat from which they cannot easily follow the captions. Seats with a view of the captions should be clearly marked on your seating plan. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/allin.online\/standard\/digital-communications\/ticket-booking\/seat-selection-and-seating-plans\/\">Digital Communications 4.01 Seat Selection and Seating Plans<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staff should know how to hand out, set up, and use any individual or handheld captioning devices in use. For example, tablets, caption glasses, or systems that allow users to view the captions on their own mobile devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Display clear signage indicating that attendees may use handheld devices to view captions during the event. This is important so that other audience members are aware of this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be aware that not all caption users will identify as disabled and may not have booked access tickets.
