This helps individuals and organisations understand expectations and behaviour in various situations. Policies also serve as accountability tools, holding staff responsible for their actions, and they streamline operations by clearly defining processes and expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All policies must be designed with deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent people in mind. Accessibility should be a priority in policymaking, and your organisation should have its own access policy. This is especially true for those with <span title=\"Intersecting identities\" data-definition-name=\"Intersecting identities\" data-definition=\"intersecting-identities\" data-definition-id=\"3613\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>.<br>\u202f<br>For example, if someone is disabled and faces marginalisation due to gender or race, they may face more discrimination or harassment. Their experiences might make it harder for them to share what happened. They could fear not being believed or understood. Your policies should explain how you will foster an inclusive culture where everyone is heard and respected. Also, avoid stereotypes and assumptions about disabled people. For instance, don\u2019t assume a disabled person didn\u2019t understand a situation when they report harassment or abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s important that your policies recognise each disabled person&#8217;s unique experience. Avoid blanket statements about disability. For example, don&#8217;t say all people with a certain type of impairment can&#8217;t use specific equipment or access certain areas. Balance your general planning with flexibility for individual needs. Avoid being too specific about who the provisions are \u201cfor.\u201d This shows you recognise that accessibility helps everyone and that people can choose what meets their needs best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensure your policies are available in alternate accessible formats, including simple summaries. For example, audio, <span data-definition=\"large-print\" data-definition-id=\"4405\" title=\"Large print\" data-definition-name=\"Large print\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>, or dyslexia-friendly font. Provide an <span data-definition=\"easy-read\" data-definition-id=\"4354\" title=\"Easy Read\" data-definition-name=\"Easy Read\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> version of key information for customer service staff. Make sure staff can easily find and reference your policies and their summaries. Hold information sessions in accessible spaces and be prepared to provide supporting information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consider information from customer feedback, complaints, and mystery shopper reports when reviewing and updating policies.
