Consider the accessibility of all spaces your staff use. Install automated or power-assisted doors when possible. Provide clear <span title=\"Wayfinding\" data-definition-name=\"Wayfinding\" data-definition=\"wayfinding\" data-definition-id=\"5677\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> with tactile and <span data-definition=\"braille\" data-definition-id=\"4316\" title=\"Braille\" data-definition-name=\"Braille\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> signage at entrances. See <a href=\"https:\/\/allin.online\/standard\/built-environment\/moving-around\/signage-and-wayfinding\/\">Built Environment 3.01 Signage and Wayfinding<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Signing-in<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you use a touchscreen system for staff sign-in, ensure the technology is accessible and includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>large text, high contrast, and audio output<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>options for a keyboard or physical buttons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>compatibility with screen readers and hearing aids via induction loops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure that the system kiosk can be used at a range of heights, including from a seated position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Access and circulation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensure doorways to staff spaces are at least 825mm wide. This allows easy access with no obstructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Provide <span data-definition=\"step-free\" data-definition-id=\"5920\" title=\"Step-free\" data-definition-name=\"Step-free\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> access into and within the area. If there is a high door threshold, consider adding a ramp. If your staff area is upstairs, provide ramp or lift access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Corridors and passageways should ideally be 1800mm wide. If they are between 1200mm and 1500mm, add passing places that are at least 1800mm long and wide. This helps wheelchair users pass each other easily. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Counters and work surfaces<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure that countertops and facilities such as sinks, worktops, and tables can be used from a seated or standing position. Taps should be operable with a closed fist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Counters such as staff work surfaces or kitchen surfaces must be at least 900mm long, or 1500mm to1800mm where possible. The knee recess underneath should be 700mm to 800mm from the floor, and at least 500mm deep. This allows wheelchair users to access the counter easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Routes leading to counters should be step free. The counter itself should be on a flat surface (not sloped or ramped). There must be a clear, flat path to the counter. Fittings with a soft-close action reduce sudden, unwanted noise. Provide coat hooks at various heights, for example, 1050mm and 1400mm above floor level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Equip offices with accessible IT equipment and ergonomic tools. This ensures staff can work comfortably and effectively. Remember, a disabled person using a workspace long-term should have a personalised assessment. This helps ensure the workspace meets their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Communal spaces: break rooms, kitchens, meeting rooms<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure there is a designated communal space for your staff to use. Consider whether your space is safe and comfortable for disabled people to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensure that any shared facilities like break rooms or kitchens that people will use have adequate access provision, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-definition=\"level-access\" data-definition-id=\"4203\" title=\"Level access\" data-definition-name=\"Level access\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sufficient turning space<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>accessible tea points<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensure worktops, sinks, and appliances like fridges, microwaves, and kettles are accessible to many users. These should be between 800mm and 1000mm from the floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Provide enough turning space for wheelchair users, at least 1500mm by 1500mm, or 1800mm by 1800mm where possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In meeting rooms, include visual and auditory signals for those with sensory impairments. For instance, install hearing loops or visual alarm systems. This will meet different needs and enable staff to adjust their immediate environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avoid harsh contrasts and glare. Use evenly spread, diffused lighting. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/allin.online\/standard\/built-environment\/moving-around\/lighting-and-contrast\/\">Built Environment 3.03 Lighting and Contrast<\/a> for further guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Accessible toilets<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Providing accessible toilets in staff areas helps create a safe and comfortable experience for your team. It provides a place to rest, recharge, or focus away from noise and distractions. These areas should be easy to access, comfortable, and free from bright lights, loud sounds, and strong smells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quiet areas should ideally be away from busy zones and not used for meetings or socialising. Remember, disabled staff who need support to evacuate will need a <span data-definition=\"personal-emergency-evacuation-plan-peep\" data-definition-id=\"5134\" title=\"Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP)\" data-definition-name=\"Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP)\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>. Not all wheelchair users can transfer to an evacuation chair independently.
