Use descriptive <span data-definition=\"link-text\" data-definition-id=\"4410\" title=\"Link text\" data-definition-name=\"Link text\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> to make this clear. This tells people exactly where your link leads or what will happen when they click it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Descriptive link text is hyperlinked text that explains the purpose of the link. If someone only sees a long URL, it doesn\u2019t mean much to them. Phrases like \u201cbook now,\u201d \u201cclick here,\u201d \u201cread more,\u201d or \u201cfind out more\u201d can be confusing without proper context. Consider how it sounds when read aloud by a <span data-definition=\"screen-readers\" data-definition-id=\"5638\" title=\"Screen readers\" data-definition-name=\"Screen readers\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span>or voice assistants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Be specific<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avoid vague phrases like \u201cclick here,\u201d \u201cread more,\u201d or \u201cthis page.\u201d Clearly state what the user will access, such as a form, file, video, booking page, or external website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Keep it short and scannable<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use short, clear phrases, as long links can be confusing. Place the most important words at the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Be consistent<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use the same <span data-definition=\"link-text\" data-definition-id=\"4410\" title=\"Link text\" data-definition-name=\"Link text\" class=\"ace-definition-inserter\"><\/span> for the same destination each time. This builds trust and helps users learn your website. For instance, always write \u201caccess information page\u201d for that link. Use similar formats for links to related pages, like \u201cbook tickets for Hamlet,\u201d \u201cbook tickets for the Egyptian exhibition,\u201d or \u201cbook tickets for Question Time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-ace-heading\">Indicate file types and formats<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your link leads to a downloadable file or opens in a new tab, state this.
